Tuesday Night News Tidbits

Welcome to Tuesday Night Tidbits.. Is it regular? Who knows! All I do know is that I have some pointless yet interesting-to-talk-about game news for you all!

First is the (not so new) news that MGS-4 will feature multiple 90-minute cutscenes [TVG]! MGS Snake Eater was known to feature 45-minute plus cut scenes.. but 90 minutes is the length of your average feature film...

Thankfully they'll be pausable, rewindable, and fast forwardable, and you can save mid way.. But it's still a hell of a long ride! Personally.. I look forward to every minute.

In other news, the game we recently looked at in our vlog, Age of Conan, has become one of the fastest selling games of all time on the PC [CVG], selling 400,000 copies so far since release. The game had over a million beta applications. Apparently, it still pales in comparion to the charge WoW had in opening sales.

Next, there's a first look at the new Prince of Persia over at IGN, which may interest you. Semi-open world, non linear, decision based plot that's beautiful and stays true to PoP:SoT? Unexpected, to say the least, but at least reassures me that we won't get another Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. (Eddy had tears over that game, I swear)

More controversy over the ESA (dudes who ran the once-awesome E3...), as iD has pulled out of the lineup [Kotaku], joining a host of other developers, such as Activision, Viviendi and Lucas Arts. What will this years E3 be like? Dissapointing? Probably... But with the Game Developers Conference becoming larger each year it looks like we may have to rely on that amongst other things (such as the recent Playstation Day) for all our big announcements.

And, lastly, and most importantly... THERE ARE NEW SCREENS FOR HELLO KITTY ONLINE. Find all the Hello Kitty Online graphical pleasures here [IGN].

Episode 1 is out!

And in two rather sizeable chunks. Aeon and myself had a lot of difficulty shutting up, testament to how much we enjoy the game Age of Conan. =P

Thanks for all the supportive comments and views so far, hope you guys enjoyed our little chat. Also we're aware of the sound issues, and we'll be trying to get our hands on a proper mic soon. Turns out my laptop mic isn't as powerful as suggested!

We also got a message from the most awesome Grant Regan of Funcom, who's artistc skills have helped mould the world of Tarantia! He said he'd put in a good word for us Aussies, so there may be hope for an Oceanic server yet. Thanks Grant!!

Hope to see you all again soon, stay tuned.

P.S. Here's some proof you can be truly hideous on Age of Conan:
It is called, Tootsie.

Prince of Persia Rumblings

Witness the wonders of cel shaders...
Well.. This is my first post! What is the above image? It is (to me, sadly at least, but I'll wait for the outcome) an unofficial screenshot from the next-gen (or is that current-gen) Prince of Persia game, PoP: Prodigy. A whole bunch of the new screenshots can be found here. Looks like the new prince is certainly pretty... But has a whole new art direction. What're your thoughts?

In other PoP news, it has been annouced that Jake Gyllenhall will be playing the prince in the new Sands of Time movie, and Gemma Arterton will be playing the love interest. Let's hope they at least don't call her "Farah". In my memory, farah wasn't exactly a fair skinned brit. At least I can settle with Jake.. Much better then earlier rumors of Zac Efron. *shudder*

Aside from the general PoP news, I guess I should post something about me. I'm currently a student studying Computer Science and all the fun that ensues from coding, I'm completely a PC fanboy regardless of the fact I'm usually game-medium neutral and own a 360, PS3, and DS. I have an unhealthy obsession with FPS, RPGs (including MMO's), Strategy Games, and "action" titles, and outside of games (shock! Unheard of!) I also do hip hop and find visits to the gym/rock climbing center rather cathardic.

What else... I dabble a bit in game design (I use the word dabble lightly) and for some reason love all things Unreal Engine, Deus Ex is probably my favourite game of all time, aand I think that's about all you need to know about me for now.

Expect our first vlog sometime in the next two days, covering our first impressions of Age of Conan! You'll be able to find it here, or on our youtube channel, www.youtube.com/AFKGames. If you like it, make sure you check back for more as we continue to build and update!

Greetings earthlings!

Or something to that effect.

Either way, hello great wide internet world, this is Edrissa speaking! Mainly out of boredom, but speaking nonetheless. I'd like to welcome you to our humble blog, which as yet has very little to do with anything. Hopefully, this'll change.
Aeon and myself will be supplying you with information regarding games, more games, gaming culture, news etc. We hope that you'll enjoy our little presentations over time!

First off a little briefing about my current status. I'm a games student working with NwN2 at the moment to create a mod. The toolset is horrific; it's unstable, glitches and creates bugs that make no sense. The only good thing is the conversation editor, which still gives me a slight headache. Nevertheless I'll persevere; I don't really feel like failing.

What else, what else... Oh yes! I've been playing MMORPG's for some time now, and have settled into Lord of the Rings: Online quite happily. I'm also playing a bit of Age of Conan, as is Aeon, and we'll be giving you guys a run down of how it rates soon. Apart from that, not very much is news worthy at the moment.

There should be a review up sometime next week at the latest, so till then, play safe. =P
